Architecture, David and locations

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Hello,

David approached me and asked for some images of him. He mentioned that he study architecture and would like some images with architecture features in them. My idea straight away was just to hit Royal mile and look around in old closes. So I did and came up with few nice locations and as I was shooting a guy I picked one more unusual location, where I could use off camera flash. It was backside of one bar, many bins outside and broken glass. Bar guys were very surprised, and let us do our shoot. I was bit scared that we will be asked to leave, but they were very supportive.

David was pretty relaxed. We had a coffee before shoot and nice chat. I would prefer to do this with all clients, but world is busy and and sometimes we just run around and are too busy. During session I was very surprised by how much David knew about architecture in Edinburgh and all little details. We went on one of closes on Royal mile and I started to click away and he was just looking on the wall and telling me what used to be there long time ago. Just by looking on this old wall with some strange marks and bricks. It was a bit fascinating.

A-Fotografy with Courtney

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Hi guys,

Session with upcoming opera singer Courtney was done in two stages. One indoor and one outdoor. She was looking for some images for her personal use and some which she could use for publicity. I scouted location around her house and we did session in entrance of Kings Theatre as well. Kings theatre is cool location for fashion shoots. Staircase and reception hall are amazing and grande. Unfortunately there was no time to shoot longer there, but I definitely would like to come back and continuo to explore this location.

Courtney was a little nervous, but with little direction and support we managed to create nice images. And she was very happy about them.

As for technique for outdoor images I used just reflector or available light. And for inside images umbrella with Sunpak Auto Zoom 3600 and umbrella. And also 60×60 softbox with hammerhead attached to it. I will put in resources how do I do that soon. Postproduction in photoshop.

As always I would like to here some comments, tell me what could be improved. I’m still bit on the edge to figure out, am I too action (photoshop) on images. Hope you will tell me that.

Here is a CMYK slideshow picked from both sessions. Just click on the image.

Black and white images will be always in fashion and I actually always give clients both. Few CMYK and few B&W. It is more classy and simply nice.

I hope you liked slides and if you have any questions please drop me a line. Thanks for watching.

Theatre spot light

Since first day when I tried this light, I always want to come back to it. I wish I would have enough resources to get one of these beauties in my own place. It is fairly simple light, but I just feel that it was made for me. Especially I like it because I can create different shadow patterns across the scene. And that adds this different dimension of image.

As always  click on the image to see rest of the images.

I also would like to thank Vanessa who was there to see and participate in shoot. It was fun and quiet busy around. Just couple shots of her as well.

All images from this shoot were produced with theatre spotlight or using honey combs on various reflectors. All images were produced in Stevenson College studio.

Ok guys this would be all for this post.

Dogwalking with Linda

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Had to do environmental portrait for college project. Had a few ideas. One of them was to take a portrait of dog-walker. As I think this is interesting profession. And I spoke with quiet few people and they were surprised that there is such a service in city%Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio

So contacted Scottish DogWalkers and they directed me to Linda who owns Watson Walkies & Pet Care. Organized time and had to decided how I want this to be done. I know clearly what type of photo to do. Low angle and dogs towards to me and leads from dogs would acts as leading lines to Linda. So even that dogs would be in foreground Linda would still be amain subject.
Day came. Nice and shiny morning, but by the time when I got to place, rain and wind and all sorts of crap. Had with me external Sunpak flash, Canon spedlite 430exII, wide angle lense, and softbox(small). My assistant Jagoda was struggling to hold softbox as wind and rain was kicking in, but we managed to get few good shots. First images were to static and dogs were mingling around, no action. Then we decided that Linda will walk towards us and that was it “bingo shot”. Nice and in motion.

Sky was pretty crap, but I knew that if I will add contrast and high pass to create texture I will get something out of it. Obviously some color enhancement and bit of dodging and burning. Like this image. Did couple more on the way to the car.

Was quick and because of the weather, not easy. Thanks to Jagoda Wishnewska and Linda. Of course special thanks to lovely dogies.
