Karolina’s Tigerlily sneak peek | Edinburgh modeling portfolio photographer

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Hello my friends,

After another busy day, I have sat down to give you a little sneak peek of my last weekend modeling photo session with Karolina. Lately I have been photographing a lot of baby work and portraiture, but for past 6 month really haven’t done any beauty work. Karolina contacted me to ask if I would get some beauty shots of her. For her this is not the first time in front of the lens, few years back she already did a little bit of modeling and she is looking to get back into it or at least have nice photographs of herself. As location we picked beautiful Edinburgh Tigerlily hotel. In this place you could photograph all day and find new and cool locations. Awesome place for photography and generally having a drink or two %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio

I have to say that I really enjoyed it and would be looking forward to photograph few more modeling sessions. I’m also on the lookout for the wardrobe stylist as it would be cool to have great selection of clothes to compliment locations %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio

So here we are few images and I’m sure Karolina will love them %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio

Edinburgh | Studio portrait photography session with Gavinuccio

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Hey guys.

Time after time I look out for volunteers to pose for me while I’m testing out some new light set ups or props. This time it was Gavinuccio or Gavi. I wanted to do some images from the top and few moody shots. Luckily Gavi brought shades with him. Those just were perfect for what I was looking for.

We kicked off with images shot from top position. Idea was to shoot a quirky fashion shot. Gavi got the suit and I was wondering how this could look from the top with yellow corn flakes bowl in front. Very light image with white table and kind of breakfasty feelin %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio

Had an idea to shoot floating shades and Gavi looking into them. I guess lighting for shades could be a lot better, but oh well… I shot shades separately on the white color stick ( easy to comp out) and then comped image of Gavi with shades.

Then moved to my moody portraits with shades on %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio Small square soft box on top right and myself wrapped in black sheet to avoid reflection in the shades.

%Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studioSame set up here as well.

Then we jumped outside of the studio and did some portraits with reflections in the mirror. Idea behind was like in movies when police guys take broken glass or something to see in reflection what is going on. Speedlights for this are very handy.

%Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studioDuring shoot took some portraits of Gavi’s friend as well.

%Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studioThis short and sweet. Hope to hear few questions or just a drop a line if you like it. Feedback is always great %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio

Gracie | Modeling portfolio update | Edinburgh

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Hello guys,

It is been a while since last post, did some marketing research work and developed few new approaches to get me working. It is festival time and it is a bit crazy out there, so I would rather stay in the studio for these days %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio

Time after time I take up some TF work and Gracie was one of the models from Edinburgh Stolen modeling agency. Mainly girls are approaching me for beauty headshots, but that is not the only thing what I do %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio We met and decided on what we would like to do. Looked on some images from my “to do” library and set the date. I would say generally it is good idea to get some starting point on ideas and then it will evolve by itself.

Straight away I would like to that Tibor for assisting me, Judit for MUA and Sophie for hair styling. Guys you rock and without you there would be no way to acquire such a great results.

Technical side.

Most of the images are shot with one light and little bit fill light. Nothing extremely complicated. Simple sets gives me more time to concentrate on subject and see more image ideas.

Edinburgh | Kirsty | Modeling portfolio test

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Hi guys.

This post will be a little about modeling portfolio shoots, or so called tests.

I do fair amount of modeling portfolio tests here in Edinburgh and little bit in Glasgow as well. I shoot on locations and also in the studio. Recently more in the studio as girls mainly are approaching me for head shot sessions. I work with various MUA’s ( Make up artists) and currently are on the look out for good stylists.

I like to work with team, as there are more eyes on the set and possibilities that they will notice something what I haven’t. Also it is good to have an extra pair of hands to help me with holding or moving or just having someone to chat and bounce back shoot ideas. Generally shoot ideas are pre set. We meet up with girls and MUA and decide what would we like to do. Get decision on looks and concepts and then is more clear idea of what we would be doing.

Kirsty had a typical approach. Generally girls/boys who are just thinking of going into world of modeling or with no clue of what they like and what should be in their portfolio, would come and say ” I need a portfolio.”  So we have to sit down and have a chat about their ideas of being in modeling. As a first thing, I generally would say that they don’t need a portfolio to get into the modeling agency %Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio You just need to approach agency and if you will fit their criteria, they will take you on anyway. And then you will build your folio from different shoots and tests.

It is good if people have already mind set, and say ” I want nice head shot “, but if they don’t then the list of ideas can be put together from my own library  or people bring along what they like and compile all possible research ideas.

With Kirsty, we decided to do a welcome session outside ( girls/boys are more relaxed in outside environment ) and then get one shoot done in the studio. She didn’t have any images, so we worked from the scratch. So that she has some kind of anchor point to work from.

First we generally do a headshot and MUA is making their magic. I actually shoot head-shots all the time during the session, as the best ones are coming along in more relaxed manner. But these ones are our beginning point.

%Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studioAnd this one came along during session, she just placed the mask in front and that was it. Brings out her eyes quiet nicely.

%Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studioThen we work on some full body shots and 3/4 shots as well. There was no involvement of the stylist, so clothes are simple and her own.

Idea fro this shot, was to create interesting pose and once I had it, I knew that I will apply some arty affect.

I like to simplify my sessions and just stop and take some more relaxed shots.

%Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studio%Edinburgh weddings, portrait and modeling photographer %Edinburgh wedding and portrait studioAs I said we do an outside session as welcome to get to know each other better.

This is just a brief run trough the session and how do I work. Obviously there are more other aspects of his, but this is a beginning for those who would be considering to come for a modeling portfolio update session.

Thank You Kirsty for a great session and everybody who were helping me on the set. Thanks.
