Since I embarked on my newborn photography journey in 2010, it has been an incredible privilege to capture so many beautiful “And then there were 6” stories. With each new baby, I not only get to document their growth but also deepen my connection with their family, and it’s such a joy to witness how they evolve over the years.

And there were 6, family photo timeline over the years

As I grow older, I see even more clearly the significance of preserving these passing moments. Time moves quickly, and seeing families return with their newest additions inspires me deeply. It reminds me just how important my role is in documenting these precious milestones.

With each session, you get to know the kids—how different and unique they are from one another. I see this in my own three children as well. They each have their own personalities, their quirks, and they know exactly how to push each other’s buttons! It’s the beautiful chaos of family life, and capturing that dynamic brings me so much joy.

What I especially love about Amy’s family is the way she keeps the poses consistent across the years. As I photograph each baby at the newborn stage, it’s fascinating to see how the timeline unfolds. The sibling and family photos reflect this journey, showing a beautiful progression. There’s something so special about being able to look back and see how each child began their life, side by side. It’s a fun and heartwarming way to capture their growth.

And then there’s Skye, their loyal family dog. Including Skye in their newborn sessions became a bit of a tradition. At the time, I hadn’t done many newborn and dog portraits together, but Skye changed that for me. I even created a behind-the-scenes film of one of our sessions with him and a baby, and from that moment, everything shifted. Suddenly, I had families reaching out, asking to include their fur babies in their newborn sessions. Since then I have created a whole guide on what to consider if you photograph newborn babies with dogs.

Skye inspired me to embrace this unique and beautiful aspect of family life—capturing not just the bond between parents and children, but also with their pets. The love they share is palpable, and I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with him. Sadly, Skye is not in the best of health now, and this last session may have been our final one together. Before he left the studio, I gave him a big bear hug, knowing how much he’s meant to me and this family over the years.

These portraits hold so much meaning. I know that in the future, the kids will treasure them, especially the eldest, who had the most time to bond with Sky. They’re not just photos—they’re memories, moments frozen in time that they can hold onto forever.

Highlights from each session over the years

Our first newborn photos session was back in 2018. It is also interesting to see how my work and style have evolved over the years.

2020 was a year when, well… we all know what happened. Luckily we managed to get these portraits.

The next time we had a newborn session milestone was 2022

We have more subjects to photograph and galleries are definitely becoming bigger with each session. We also switched to the dark background as during prior year Amy came for a Christmas mini session and she liked dark background photos.

Our last session was just recently 2024

When I have 4 kids in the studio, it does make me a bit nervous and you don’t know how things will go, but actually, I really enjoyed this session. This was the time when you could see the best how kids mould between each other. I was surprised at how pretty easy this session was. Everyone just did what they expected to do with 5* performance. The resulting set of portraits is amazing. It was a super happy moment with a bit of sadness for me regarding the condition of Skye. It was a very recent condition and I don’t Skey has realised yet how it’s affecting his everyday life. Beautiful big fluffy boy.

Thank you all for visiting and checking out this story. This family now will be visiting me every year or so for my Christmas sessions to keep documenting their family journey. I am looking forward to continuing this story with new sets of portraits.
Thank you all.
