Cake smash session with Begbie sisters

I have been doing cake smash photos in Edinburgh for past few years now and it is such a fun to get these messy photos done. I keep it simple, but nice. I prefer background to be plain so we can concentrate on baby and cake eating tasks. Family is most welcome to bring their own props, set ups etc.
Birthday cake smash session are becoming increasingly popular and you can do them in different styles. Sometimes little ones get dressed with funny hats and boys get outfits with ties etc.

Most of you know that I have followed Charlotte for more than a year now and we have managed to create some really special memories for family. Connection is been really great and I look forward to keep following her for long time.
I still remember that first time when I saw this really tiny, tiny soul. It was the first time in my life I have seen so fragile little baby. The least I could say I was a bit overwhelmed at the time. Especially when you sit and work on images and suddenly it counts on you how special all this is.

When organising the shoot we asked if we could bring our dog with us as we thought it would be nice to involve him. Armands was happy for him to be involved and up for the challenge – he seemed intrigued with how a cake smash with a baby and a dog would go!
We were a bit anxious before about bringing our dog however he was allowed to roam around the studio and make himself at home in between shots and other than a close call with the cake before the shoot started all went well.
The new born photos the year before showed us his relaxed style which we liked so it was an easy decision to go back. On the day of the shoot we debated about what outfits to bring and appreciated his advice and suggestions on what would work best for the photos we had in mind.

“Charlie Caterpillar was a must because it would clearly show how much Annaliese had grown. As for the shawl, the bracelet and the balloons we put our trust in Armands. The shawl is very special as it was knitted by my Oma for me coming home from hospital and Annaliese is named after her. Armands took us through his thoughts and a plan was formulated. I have to say Annaliese had a ball!”

Hugo’s family was looking out for some ideas how to celebrate first birthday. They haven’t got any professionally done photos of Hugo. So they came across one of my cake smash stories and it was perfect opportunity to get portraits done and have something fun for Hugo as well.
I have photographed babies for many years now and cake smash sessions have been part of my business for 3 years. I have developed great relationship with local baker and babies definitely love her cakes :) Yes there is aspect of major studio clean after each session, but I take that as good opportunity to organise studio and keep it tidy.

Year has pretty much finished and I’m doing my final posts. This story will be about little Shaun who came for his Edinburgh cake smash photography photo session. We had a great time with him and his sister. Managed to photograph nice toddler portraits and few of his sister as well. Like always during cake smash sessions we are dong nice toddler portraits first and then finishing the session with messy cake smash portraits.
