‘ During that time when they’re so tiny, you don’t get an awful lot from them. Taking good photographs yourself is really difficult. Armands took a stunning photograph of Argyll in a blanket, which looks like he’s lying on a cloud. I would never have been able to get an image like that. The way they look as newborns, it’s so special. They grow up so quickly and it’s wonderful to be able to keep those memories to look back on forever.’

When you book a newborn photographer.
I would suggest getting in touch with me after your 12 week scan, so we have plenty of time to meet and talk about your newborn shoot. I’ll put your due date into my diary. Get in touch with me when your little one arrives and we’ll confirm the date and time of your session for when your tiny new family member is 5-10 days old.
Would you like newborn photos at home or at the studio?
I currently hold most of my newborn photography sessions at my Edinburgh studio. This is a light and airy 600 square foot facility in St Margaret’s House on London Road, which is perfectly tailored for new parents’ needs.
Some families prefer to have photographs taken in their home, rather than in the studio. These tend to take more of a documentary style, with organic, non-posed images. I mainly use the light that is naturally available, but during those dark Scottish winter days that we all know and love I might need to bring some additional lights. I’ll assess the space you have available, and then we can choose together the best space for us to capture this special time.
What type of session would you like?
Mini Session or Full Experience Session
Mini sessions are great for more budget sensitive clients. These sessions last around an hour and we photograph around 3-4 set ups/poses. Here is feedback from one of our mini session clients.
‘A-Fotografy was recommended to myself and my wife by friends and we are very very happy that they did! We just wanted some excellent pictures taken just when our daughter came home. We were unsure if we want any printed products or canvases – all of which A-Fotografy do – so the Mini Newborn Session was perfect for us. To get few images digitally so we can make that decision later.
On the day Armands was extremely helpful and professional and I would go so far as to describe him as a ‘baby whisperer’. He was able to make sure our daughter was calm throughout the session and even allowed us to stop for a feed when it was obvious that is what she needed.
Afterwards we went through our package options and it was all very clear and easy to follow – we actually bought more images than we had planned.
I would definitely recommend Armands and A-Fotografy, we had a great experience and ended up with some beautiful photos that we will cherish.’
Full Experience Sessions are perfect if you would like more personalized custom session. You will have plenty of time to get beautiful images, relax and possibly have a nap too. Plenty of options on what to do with images after and full guidance from me personally. Here is feedback from one our our full experience customers.
‘ The studio was warm, clean and totally relaxing. At all times Lena was “in charge” and she led the whole thing, not bad for an 11 day old baby. There was a midwife present, Armands assistant Mitra, who was so calming and wonderful that I nearly fell asleep I was so relaxed!!!! Dad was so relaxed he had a wee forty winks on the sofa, of course he was sleep deprived!
Safety and Lena’s comfort was always paramount. When Lena needed changed and fed it was not a problem, even a breast feeding pillow was available for use.
We came back to the studio a week later to see the final photographs and we were absolutely delighted. Armands even gave sound advice to us about what print options would be suitable to go on the wall, and how best to group the photographs if we decided to print more in the future. The whole experience from start to finish was fantastic.’

Who is your photographer.
My name is Armands. I have photographed babies since 2008. I have been blessed to photograph to date (2016) over 400 newborn babies.
Babies make me happy. I’m a dad of two and every session I’m transported back to those memories when I was holding my own little babies. I love to give babies cuddles and to take possibly most precious baby photos for you. Since my first newborn session, I was hooked with baby photography. I love to know what these newborn photos will mean to parents in future.
You barely come to terms with the fact that this miracle is actually yours before the newborn stage has passed you by. I’m so grateful to have my children’s newborn photos. I often find myself looking back at photos, gripped with emotion and stunned at how fast they’ve grown. I couldn’t imagine not having these memories to look back on.
My goal is to create for you individualized, graceful, and inspired newborn photography artwork.
