Hello everyone. Woohoo, I did my first model call photo session. Those of you who follow me on my FB Page will remember me posting a model call to do newborn sessions at home. I got huge amount of interest and picked 8 families to visit and try to create beautiful body of work. I already have amazing studio work portfolio, but want to differentiate my work a bit.
Reasons for me wanting to try newborn sessions at homes.
– I get many requests for older newborn sessions, like past 5 week stage. Mums would ask if I can do curled up newborn posed images as in my portfolio, but from my 7 years experience I can say with confidence that it would pretty much impossible. Newborns at this stage would be a lot more alert and wanting to explore and see. Home sessions would give possibility to record more personality images and more natural images with baby being more alert.
– Talking about natural baby photos. Home sessions give totally different feel to images. They are more organic, there is more family connection in their own environment. This would give potential clients a choice even if their baby is at first weeks. If you are after those more organic shots, then this is perfect for you.
– Story telling images. With project expanding I will be exploring idea or recording more candid moments too. Especially involving siblings or pets.
– I would leave all my props at at the studio and work with what each environment can give to me. With light, with various locations in house. With baby nursery etc. I might bring with me few clothing items for very small babies, but generally involvement of props would be down to minimum.
So I did my first model call home session.
Here is what Megan’s parents wrote about their experience.
“Armands came highly recommended to us by a friend who’d had photos taken of her baby.
We were excited to be selected for one of Armands’ photo shoots at home. We weren’t sure what to expect in terms of poses, where in our house we’d have photos taken or even how long the session would take! However, we needn’t have been concerned: Armands arrived at our house and his charming manner immediately made us comfortable as he moved about the house looking for the best lighting and backgrounds to use in his images. His professionalism was apparent in the ease with which he set up shots using the furniture and props around the house, even moving us from room to room as the light coming through the windows moved as the day went on.
Throughout the session, Armands was a pleasure to be directed by and he was fantastic with our baby who remained asleep for the duration of the shoot. Armands even had some great baby advice for our little girl. We’ve asked if he does babysitting!
A week later, Armands presented us with a slideshow of our session and we were absolutely delighted by the finished photographs. We were amazed at the outcome which were beyond our expectations.”

Beautiful selection of newborn photos to cherish.
By the way I was not expecting Megan to be a sleep. She was just happy sleeping. Normally babies would be pretty alert 🙂 We did warm up house a bit and maybe that was making her sleepy 🙂
