Your maternity photoshoot should feel relaxed and enjoyable, completely tailored to you. At my Edinburgh studio, you can choose from a range of beautiful maternity gowns and flowing fabrics to create timeless portraits. Professional hair and makeup can also be arranged, so you feel confident and ready to enjoy the experience.

I’ve been photographing maternity portraits since 2010. I know how important it is to capture this special stage of pregnancy beautifully. My job is not just to create stunning images but also to guide you throughout the session. I want you to feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.

Whether this is your first maternity photoshoot or you’re returning to document another chapter of your family’s story, you’ll be in experienced hands every step of the way.

This is probably the most common concern I hear before a maternity photoshoot.
Pregnancy can be an emotional and exhausting time. Many expectant mothers tell me they feel tired, uncomfortable, or simply don’t recognize themselves in the mirror. The last thing they want to do is step in front of a camera.

But maternity photography isn’t about looking perfect. It’s about celebrating this amazing stage of your journey and creating beautiful memories before your baby arrives. Through careful lighting, posing, and guidance, I’ll help you feel comfortable, confident, and relaxed during the session.

What to Wear for Your Maternity Photoshoot

Choosing what to wear for your maternity photoshoot can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident.

Flowing dresses, fitted gowns that highlight your bump, soft neutral colours and simple textures all photograph beautifully. During your maternity photography session, I’ll guide you on outfit choices and help you select styles that suit both you and the look you’d like to achieve.

Your pregnancy photoshoot: What to expect

When to book a maternity photoshoot

I recommend making your booking as soon as possible after your 20-week scan when you’ll be given an expected due date. Booking early secures your slot in my diary, and we can change the date nearer the time if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected.

When to do maternity photos

When to do your maternity session portraits can be personal preference, but the most expectant mums-to-be come into the studio for their photoshoot in between 7-8 months. If you are happy with belly size, you can come in earlier too.

Where do you take pregnancy portraits

Where to take your portraits is also all up to you. Mainly maternity photos are taken at my Edinburgh photo studio, but it can be done at your home if you’d prefer. Or, do you have a favourite park? An affinity for the beach? I am comfortable working both indoors and outdoors so feel free to choose a place that is most comfortable for you.

What to wear for the photo session

During your session, you’ll have access to all my elegant maternity gowns. I also have a collection of headpieces and beautiful fabrics that we can also incorporate into the images. Before the date of your maternity photo session, I will give you a little list of things to bring with you and I’ll explain why you’ll need them. Ultimately, it depends what type of session are you planning in terms of what you will need to bring.

You will love the experience

I want you to feel 100% relaxed and comfortable having your photos were taken with me, so if you’d like to, please come and meet me in person at the studio ahead of your session. I am also happy to answer any questions you have either before or on the day of your maternity session.

We can do your bump portraits with you fully clothed or a combination of covered and uncovered bump photos – it’s completely up to you.

These sessions are wonderful family events as well, so it only makes sense that dad and siblings will help tell your story in pictures.
