60th birthday photoshoot idea – Head to the Beach
Hello everyone. Today, I would like to share with you a great family gathering portrait session we did on Gullane Beach. I’m a Midlothian family photographer based in Edinburgh and run A-Fotografy studio.
Joanne got in touch to ask if I offer portraits for larger family gatherings. She was planning a special 60th birthday photoshoot as a gift for her mum. Their favourite spot? Gullane Beach – which just so happens to be mine too! That made saying yes an easy decision.
Summer is my season for outdoor portrait sessions, and I spend a lot of time on that beach. I often joke that I should just live there, it’s practically my second home.
I wasn’t worried about having quite a few children at the session. When you’re photographing outdoors, it’s much easier to manage the flow and let things unfold naturally. We all agreed that we wanted this to be a relaxed experience and to have as much fun as possible. There were three separate families to photograph, along with the lovely birthday lady herself.
It’s also a great opportunity for each family to have individual portraits taken and to catch up with one another. How often do you all get together? Probably not that often, so why not make a proper day of it. You can focus on spending time with each other, and along the way, you’ll have a professional photographer there to capture relaxed, natural family moments.
Here is what Anne said about her experience.
“When my children suggested having a family photoshoot done to celebrate my approaching 60th birthday I was both excited and nervous – the whole family are not together all that often, and there are quite a few of us including 5 children aged between 7 and 11 months! How were we ever going to get everyone in one place and all looking their best?
Then Joanne found Armands who not only did family sessions but did them outside where the children (big and small) could run about and have fun – and we could do all this at one of our favourite places for family gatherings – Gullane beach!
The weather was kind to us and we all had a great time from start to finish, resulting in the most perfect gift Grannie Annie could wish for. Wonderful photographs and happy memories – I am so proud of my beautiful family! Thank you Armands for making it such fun and capturing it so well.
