a-fotografyLukas, Allan and Herman | Sneak peak | Edinburgh

September 3rd, 2010

Lukas approached me trough my online questionnaire and was one of the lucky winners of free photo session. Very chilled and relaxed couple and they have a another family member,  doggy called Herman. Absolute beauty and with his own character of course. Always likes to show off and play with his toys and needs non stop attention :)

We decided for a starter to shoot in the house to get some relaxed informal shots on the couch, couple portraits and then move outside to the Figgate Burn Public Park , I think it is part of Duddingston park as well. Park has a beautiful walking path bridge over the water and really nice pond. Discovered this only by chance, was scouting for locations for them and came across this gem.

After park the plan was to move to the Portobello beach and do some running, exercising shots there :) By now most likely you know, that I like activities shoots :)

The day arrived and it was beautiful, sunny and warm. Everything went as planned and I guess Lukas and Allan enjoyed shoot very much and little Herman was in his character and wasn’t that easy convinced for few posed shots :) At the end I had a great day and  lots of great shots. Thank you guys for giving me this opportunity to make a record of your day and spend some time with you.

This is my sneak peak for you, to get you appetite going, there are a lot more to see. :)

August 22nd, 2010

Hello guys,

It is been a while since last post, did some marketing research work and developed few new approaches to get me working. It is festival time and it is a bit crazy out there, so I would rather stay in the studio for these days :)

Time after time I take up some TF work and Gracie was one of the models from Edinburgh Stolen modeling agency. Mainly girls are approaching me for beauty headshots, but that is not the only thing what I do :) We met and decided on what we would like to do. Looked on some images from my “to do” library and set the date. I would say generally it is good idea to get some starting point on ideas and then it will evolve by itself.

Straight away I would like to that Tibor for assisting me, Judit for MUA and Sophie for hair styling. Guys you rock and without you there would be no way to acquire such a great results.

Technical side.

Most of the images are shot with one light and little bit fill light. Nothing extremely complicated. Simple sets gives me more time to concentrate on subject and see more image ideas.

a-fotografyEdinburgh | Kirsty | Modeling portfolio test

August 16th, 2010

Hi guys.

This post will be a little about modeling portfolio shoots, or so called tests.

I do fair amount of modeling portfolio tests here in Edinburgh and little bit in Glasgow as well. I shoot on locations and also in the studio. Recently more in the studio as girls mainly are approaching me for head shot sessions. I work with various MUA’s ( Make up artists) and currently are on the look out for good stylists.

I like to work with team, as there are more eyes on the set and possibilities that they will notice something what I haven’t. Also it is good to have an extra pair of hands to help me with holding or moving or just having someone to chat and bounce back shoot ideas. Generally shoot ideas are pre set. We meet up with girls and MUA and decide what would we like to do. Get decision on looks and concepts and then is more clear idea of what we would be doing.

Kirsty had a typical approach. Generally girls/boys who are just thinking of going into world of modeling or with no clue of what they like and what should be in their portfolio, would come and say ” I need a portfolio.”  So we have to sit down and have a chat about their ideas of being in modeling. As a first thing, I generally would say that they don’t need a portfolio to get into the modeling agency :) You just need to approach agency and if you will fit their criteria, they will take you on anyway. And then you will build your folio from different shoots and tests.

It is good if people have already mind set, and say ” I want nice head shot “, but if they don’t then the list of ideas can be put together from my own library  or people bring along what they like and compile all possible research ideas.

With Kirsty, we decided to do a welcome session outside ( girls/boys are more relaxed in outside environment ) and then get one shoot done in the studio. She didn’t have any images, so we worked from the scratch. So that she has some kind of anchor point to work from.

First we generally do a headshot and MUA is making their magic. I actually shoot head-shots all the time during the session, as the best ones are coming along in more relaxed manner. But these ones are our beginning point.

Idea fro this shot, was to create interesting pose and once I had it, I knew that I will apply some arty affect.

I like to simplify my sessions and just stop and take some more relaxed shots.

This is just a brief run trough the session and how do I work. Obviously there are more other aspects of his, but this is a beginning for those who would be considering to come for a modeling portfolio update session.

Thank You Kirsty for a great session and everybody who were helping me on the set. Thanks.

a-fotografyEdinburgh Portrait photographer | Alicia | Great location portraits

August 13th, 2010

This portrait session was done a while back, and I kind of trying to catch up with past work and write also about more current portrait photography sessions. Alicia is friend of mine, and I asked her if she would be ok with one little photo session. She is quiet self conscious girl, so at the beginning was big NO. Then one day she came back to me and we decided to go out around Edinburgh and just do some portraits.

Her clothing was pretty dark and she wanted more of edgy portraits. Something what could reflect her personality. I knew that this is a little challenge coming up :)  I definitely had to approach this from relaxed and creative side.

Started off with just a simple back lit portrait. I was on higher angle and asked to cross her arms and lean on stones. A little cross process as after effect.

Next location was a little walk, but was previously scouted and I liked graffiti walls. I think that would describe her edgy side and possibility for me to play with colors.

Also used wide angle lens to capture unusual angles.

It is great to have a walk and see different places and possibilities. I’m big fan of walking around. You can stop and explore. So we ended up next to these little storage doors.

Had an idea to play with gels, but I needed a dark environment, so found a little dark car park. Just wanted to add some color and mood, darkness.
